Heaven on Earth

Time seems to fly when your waiting. Hubby's call back still hasn't come in. So back to the drawing board. We aren't giving up on that job yet though. I know there's something perfect for us. Once we get settled, I would like to start working again. It just sounds like I will end up having to go back to beauty school if I want to work in a salon again. (which is what I want to do) I do love being able to be the one to care for my son, though. And, I know we don't want to wait too long for our next munchkin, so we'll just need to pray for what's best.

Even though that area has been gloomy, there has been plenty good to look back on and smile. Hubby has gotten some great opportunities this past week. He was asked to preach this past Sunday at church. You know, regardless of how you feel you did, how prepared you were, how many things went wrong, what matters in the end is just hearing that one person say that what you said impacted them. Hubby's preaching on "Pride vs. Confidence" really hit home for some people in the service. That's how you know your job was done. And, he was also asked to speak at another church for tomorrow night's youth service. So proud of my Fancy Man.

HANDSOMELY NEW

{This face is definitely little me}

This past weekend Handsome turned 11 months. Gosh. One more month till he's a YEAR. It has been a little downer due to the fact that many of his little friends also turned a year this past month and we aren't able to be there for they're big days. But thank God for Facebook, Blogs, and Instagram to keep as close as possible. Also, in keeping up with all the birthdays, once again a downer. You can't begin your party planning without money. I am not the type of person to wait till last minute when it comes to planning things. Just ask my Hubby. So its very hard to be this close to Handsome's birthday and not be able to start on anything. Besides my downers, Handsome now stands by himself great. He can walk very good with us only holding one of his hands. He has also started a new language where everything he says is "Butu, Butu, Butu" in different tones. All we can do is laugh and say "oh, really?". We also have a new little friend. Tooth number 5. We were wondering why he all of a sudden had an urge to bite everything and everyone.

THIS FAIR LADY

I am sad to say I never went to a state fair while living in Texas. So my first visit to the AK state fair was good cause I had nothing to compare it to. (Unless we compare it to the Houston Rodeo. That's a whole different level which is unreachable) They had the norm: Carnival rides, petting zoo, lots of food, and shops. Including one shop that sold merchandise that was all about talking mess about Texas. Not a fan of that I must say.  But, it was fun EVENTHOUGH I didn't get a funnel cake.(the best part of a carnival) I also got a compliment on my hair. That always ups your spirits. I think the best part of it was the backdrop of mountains. This view will never get old for someone who grew up in Texas. We will most likely be going again this weekend and this time I'll get my funnel cake.

HEAVEN ON EARTH

The long awaited visit to one of my favorite stores finally happened. FOREVER 21. I had heard that this one is supposed to be a really good store so I was anxious to check it out myself. We were in Anchorage on last week because Hubby was painting his grandfathers wood fence. Well, I decided to take a stroll to the mall. We normally go to a nearby mall on Sundays (family tradition) for lunch, but that wasn't the mall that had the goodies. When I had asked Hubby how far we were from THE mall he said "Oh, yeah. Its FAR. It's on the other side of town." So I braced myself for at least a 30 min drive to the mall. I got there in 18 minutes. Really? He just laughed when I told him how long it took me. We're barely here for less than a month and he already forgets what it was like living in the city. I, on the other hand, love the fact that "the other side of town" in the largest city here is only 18 minutes. Whether it was 18 or 30 minutes, it was worth it. The store was great.

I am the type of person that if I go to a store that is rediculously unorganized or crowded I will turn around and walk out before I hit someone. I HATE stores like that. This was heaven. The only other XXI that can out-do this one is the one located in Puerto Rico. I wasn't able to buy anything of course. (Not in the budget) But, just walking through the store I looked like a Ree Ree cause of the goofy smile on my face. My day was made. Then, the icing on the cake. Connected to the store was another seperate store that was nothing but sale items. Oh dear Lord I WAS in heaven. Let's just say I WILL be coming back!

Like Tattoos on This Town

I know, its been far too long. You're just DYING to know what is going on in Alaska, aren't you? Well, if you must know, I was sick. The toilet, the trash can, and I became well acquainted this past week. No, no. I can see the wheels'a turnin' in that little head of yours. There is no little person on the way. The day after I said my goodbyes to the toilet and trash can, I said hello to that other uninvited friend. So double boo boo for me. Anyways, that is my reason for not having written earlier this week. Also, the past couple days we had a garage sale, so lets recap from there...

{a little fun on the job}
{swallowed by a hat}

THE SALE IN THE GARAGE

My "suegra" (mother.in.law) and Hubby's cousin had planned to have a garage sale this past weekend so, of course, I tagged along with the ladies and added a few of my things. Well, mainly it was things from Davids old room. Lets just say he outgrew ALOT of what was in his room. Or, at least I did. haha. We made a whole $106. Even though it was mainly Fancy Man's stuff, whats his is mine. All in all, the sale was a success. I love garage sales. Going to them AND having them. So many hidden treasures. Its like a scavenger hunt for the creative and patient.

While the ladies bargained and made money, the hubbies also had work. "Suegro" has started an addition on his home: An attached 3car garage. Listen here people, they don't hire Mexicans to build it for them. They built it themselves. ("There ain't nothin wrong with a hard hat and a hammer") Well, today the long-awaited concrete was poured. So, the men stayed back to help. I must say, I love when the Fancy Man trades his Wing Tips for a pair of dirty, steel-toe work boots. When the concrete was almost dry, I got the call to head back to the house with Handsome so that he could leave his mark in grandpa's garage. So happy he'll be able to have that imprint to look back on. Fancy Man also did a little demo to his old truck. The truck was once Suegro's, but SOMEONE wrecked it pretty bad and so it was passed on. Let's just say someone hit some very solid "wood" and ended up on his side.

LIONS AND TIGERS AND BEARS

Also last week, we took Handsome to the zoo for the first time! Yay! He didn't really understand the animal part, but he loved just being outside and riding on daddy's shoulders. I am a nature freak, animal lover so I very much enjoyed seeing the poor one-eyed owl, and the beautifully, scary polar bears.
Hubby's friends invited us to frisbee golf one afternoon and I must admit I loved the trees bleeding with sap and the mushrooms more than watching the guys throw a Frisbee.

HANDSOMELY NEW

Handsome has tried many times to stand on his own. His Tia is always trying to get him to stand by himself. His birthday is also almost one month away! Kind of wish I had my friends close by to help me plan. I have all my ideas pinned on of course, pinterest, and I really hope we can "make it happen".

*PLEASE PLEASE*

Fancy Man gets his call back for the job by latest Tuesday and we will get an answer. Keep in your prayers. Also for a house/apt to come up once we have decided on a location.

The Last Frontier

And here we are. This is going to be so fun for me! I've been wanting to start a blog for a while, but we didn't have wifi in our old apt. But, now, we do!

{View from my in-laws driveway}

Well, "The Last Frontier". Yep, that's where we are. Surrounded by mountains and glaciers, and I must say I do enjoy it. It hasn't quite set in that we're not quite on vacation. We're NOT leaving. I think it may set in once we get our own place and are settled.

As for our long, 5 day trip, lets not talk about it. Ok, fine, I will. Well, we took off Saturday night (Aug 28) from Dallas. SOMEONE (The Fancy Man) decided to get sick in the middle of the night and we had to stay at a hotel in Wichita, Kansas. We paid over $100 for a "motel" quality room. We stayed there because we were supposed to have gotten the room free because of rewards but they told us when we checked out that we had to book in advance. Boo. Any who, The Little Mister did amazingly well on our trip. I was worried because he's not a big fan of his car seat, but the tv's/dvd player Popo (my dad) let us borrow worked miracles! Thank the Lord for Veggie Tales!

Nothing very interesting happened while driving through the states. I saw probably one of my last lightening storms. No, there are no lightening/thunderstorms up here. Yes, I almost cried. Who would've thought I could be sad about not having hurricane season or tornado warnings? Well, I am. I love storms. Correction I love RAIN storms. But now I get to enjoy earthquakes and snow storms. Very unfamiliar with those two. I have been in a couple earthquakes while living in Puerto Rico, but I pretty much slept through them.

Canada, oh Canada! All I can say is, it will be quite a while until we decide to cross that border again. Don't get me wrong, the people were VERY nice to us. Canada itself, not so much. Once we got on the Alaska Hwy, (the route that takes you straight through The Rockies to cross into AK) we had construction. CONSTANTLY! In patches. Ugh! So annoying. Plus random patches of gravel road.

Which takes us to my next complaint.While driving on one of these annoying loose gravel patches, we hear a bang. First, I thought our tire blew. My brother-in-law says "that was your back window!" Really? Yes! Our back tire kicked up a rock, it bounced off of the u-haul, and shattered our window. So, we had to drive the rest of our trip without a back window. Never had I been more happy to see the American border.

So now, here we are. We are staying with my in-laws until The Fancy Man gets a secured job so we can get an apt. CAN'T WAIT! Really praying we can find a house to rent. (prayer request)

I also don't have a phone due to Verizon sucking! I will most likely be switching to AT&T. Hey just so I can keep Snowy, (my white Iphone) I'm ok.
